Where the fifteen translations projected by Sanctumel come from, and under what terms they are distributed.

Sanctumel projects fifteen Bible translations. This page states where each comes from and under what terms it is distributed. This is not a formality: Creative Commons licences require the rights holder to be named wherever the text is published, and that is what this page does.

What this means

Public domain: the text belongs to no one. No conditions.

CC BY-SA 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike): the text may be freely distributed, provided the rights holder is named, which this page does and which the version name projected with every verse also does.

CC BY-ND 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution NoDerivatives): the same attribution duty, plus one more rule, which concerns Polish. The text must not be modified. Sanctumel distributes it as is.

Where the files come from

All these translations come from eBible.org, which publishes the texts together with their licence, translation by translation. The version name is projected with the verse: a congregation has the right to know what is being read to it.

The languages that are missing, and why

Kikongo, Tshiluba, Kitetela, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi and modern Greek are not on this list. There is currently no complete, freely redistributable translation in those languages. The texts exist, but their rights belong to the Bible Societies.

We are approaching the Digital Bible Library, which licenses Bible texts to applications. A single request would cover all six.
