Many people turn their camera off for one reason only: what is behind them. A bedroom, a kitchen, an untidy office. Background blur settles that - and a meeting where faces are visible is nothing like a meeting of grey circles.
Before you join
- Open the meeting link. The welcome screen shows your camera before anyone can see you.
- Below the preview, tap the sparkle button.
- Your background blurs in the preview: you see exactly what others will see.
- Join the meeting. The blur follows you.
Note: your choice is remembered. Next time, blur will already be on.
During the meeting
The button sits in the bottom bar, right after the camera. On a phone it lives under More.
You often notice you are badly placed only once you see yourself on screen: the setting can be changed at any moment, without leaving the meeting.
If the button is missing
Blur needs a reasonably recent device. When yours cannot do it, the button is not shown at all - better than a button that would do nothing.
It also disappears when your camera is off: there is no background left to blur.
What it costs
The work happens on your device, never on our servers. None of your picture travels anywhere to be blurred. On an older phone the battery drains a little faster: that is the only cost.
